فیلم مرد خانواده فیلمی بسیار چالش برانگیز است، چون تا حدی سعی دارد این سوال بسیار بسیار فلسفی در زندگی هر انسانی را به تصویر بکشد : اگر این اتفاق نمی افتاد چه میشد؟! مرد خانواده داستان روتینی دارد. مردی که با یک تصمیم ساده و نادیده گرفتن احساسش، تبدیل به مردی موفق در زمینۀ کاری می شود، ولی با یک انتخاب ساده، می تواند ببیند که اگر تصمیم دیگری می گرفت، چه اتفاقی می افتاد. او در زندگی دیگری سیر خواهد کرد، با همسر و فرزندانی دوست داشتنی که او را هرچه بیشتر ترغیب می کند که در همین جا بماند و "عشق" را به "پول" ترجیح بدهد. اما متاسفانه این سیر به پایان می رسد و او دوباره به زندگی خودش باز می گردد. زندگی یی پر از پول و موفقیت، اما بدون همسر و فرزندانش. او تصمیم می گیرد که این مسیر را عوض کند. پس به دنبال همسرش در زندگی واقعی می گردد و او را پیدا می کند :)
کش و قوسهای فیلم، بسیار جذب کننده است، به طوری که در بازی زیبای نیکولاس کیج واقعا به این دنیا خواهیم رفت و همپای او این زندگی را تجربه خواهیم کرد. شخصیت پردازی فیلم بسیار عالیست. به بیننده در هر لحظه القا می شود که چقدر زندگی دوست داشتنی این دو انسان خواستنی است. عشق جاری بین دو شخصیت فیلم، بسیار بسیار واقعی ترسیم شده. همچنین کارگردانی فیلم نیز جزو نقاط مثبت فیلم دسته بندی می شود.
