Hey guys. I was just reading an article about the Bruce Willis Biography just recently and I headed towards a sentence that I had problem with translating it.

First of all I think it is "take with them"
"turn-of-the-century Englishness" means the way English people were at the time of transition between the 19th and the 20th century.
So the sentence means that wherever they went, they had this quality with them, and they were suspicious of everything that was foreign(not English)
