پاسخ : English Problems or Questions

به نقل از paulhenry :
em... that would be :" stories... not really good. if you want to improve try some exiting stories like "gone with the wind" youll be really booted at the end
i really have to admit, learner stories never get u much skill, but if u do use 'em, use the level one up yours!

BUT

just introduce a word for "bullsh.." and ill use it. theres no, i promise ya:D
Reading the books which are written for Eng learners, sometimes may help the students improve their comprehension skill.
People are different and for each person there's a different way for improving in Eng.
You can avoid reading them, but don't tell others to do so. :)
you can say it like this:%#^~#*%$ :|

فرق last و late تو مواردی مثه مثالای زیر چیه؟
last king....late king

پاسخ : English Problems or Questions

Last, means...well, it means last, the last king means that no king existed after him.
Late here means someone who lived relatively recently, for example: Albert Einstein was a late physicist.

پاسخ : English Problems or Questions

Late king می تونه به معنی شاهی که (به تازگی) فوت کرده هم باشه.

Which part of the following sentence is wrong?
Our instructor gave a lecture on constitutional law which was brilliant in expression and content.

I personally think the answer is "which" because it is ambiguous whether it is referring to constitutional law or the lecture on constitutional law.

I agree with you for the same reason.

پاسخ : English Problems or Questions

That's exactly the problem there is. and as you know you could easily fix it by adding a comma before the relative pronoun

what does this sentence mean?

I'm shooting rubber bands up at the stars

what does this sentence mean?

I'm shooting rubber bands up at the stars

I think It is better to divide statement into parts

shoot up is the verb that means to hit with a number of shots

and rubber bands are bands made of rubber

and at some times in some texts means " to "

so it can be " I skeet rubber bands to stars " :-"

I think so :D

u know it was in a song called 'letter to god'
I mean Can't it mean that his wishes and prayers are like rubber bands that he is sending them for god?:-"

Maybe it's not an expression..
It's just an imagery..
I don't know:-?

پاسخ : English Problems or Questions

I have not heard that song

I agree that it doesn`t seem to be an expression

But if you put its lyric it`s easier to say and judge !

and you can put the paragraph that you have seen this statement in .

here it is:

Are you listening?
I'm shooting rubber bands up at the stars
Some days I just don't know where you are
I'm feeling kind of lost down here

:-?

پاسخ : English Problems or Questions

I think that the person who is saying this words and statements , wants stars , or somebody that is in a higher place than him to attend him . So he is trying to do that by shooting up the rubberbands at stars
and Maybe his (soulmate?)is in stars and this way , he or she will pay attention to him
I Think so :D
by the way , your question was related to translation part , wasn`t it ? :D

I still can't pronounce the word ''girl'' correctly! :)) Most of Iranian people pronounce it like ''gehrl'':
The gehrl goes to eschool :D
This is our bad habit, we don't pay much attention pronouncing ''girl'' and s-beginning of the English words! I've had this problem for 2 years, just like other Iranian (who are intending to learn English.)

‏@

The biggest reason for those kinda problems is that the only place iranian actually USE english is the classroom in which they are taught. If u wanna improve ur english speaking (not just those two words) the best way is watching tv and listening to speeches.
By watching tv i don't mean movies, cuz there are lots of accents involved and surely will get u mixed up, they are good for learning slang though.
For ur problem watching news is the best option. Even if u sometimes don't understand what the dude over there is sayin' but ur ears will get used to english and little by little u can speak english fluently without much trouble.
Depending on the accent u work on these news channels can be different. My advice; Bbc world news for british and cnn or fox for american.
+
whatever u do, don't watch press tv(or whatever its name is) for that purpose, it will ruin ur english! :D
